It is important to write and pronounce words of foreign origin correctly.
In the Ukrainian language, there is a “rule of nine” – nine letters, after which “y” must be written in foreign words.
This was told by a famous Ukrainian teacher and linguist Oleksandr Avramenko on the air “Breakfast with 1+1”.
He noted: “In foreign words, you should write “y” after T.” We don’t say “mathematics”, no, mathematics. Similarly, we do not say “hermetic”, but hermetic. Let me remind you, after 9 letters that denote sounds d z s c r w h w reference phrase for memorization “Where will you eat this bowl of fat”. This is the so-called “rule of nine”. So, after these nine letters in foreign words, you must write “y”. Chips not chips, cheesecakes not cheesecake. Although, of course, it is better to say “cheesecake” and not “tiramisu”, but tiramisu.
