Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba during the first in the history of bilateral relations visit to Mozambique invited the country to join the implementation of the peace formula, informs press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
According to the information of the department, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy was received by the President of Mozambique Filipe Nyuzi in Maputo and held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique Veronika Makamo.
“My visit to Mozambique has three main tasks. First: lay a political foundation for the development of mutually beneficial relations between our countries. Second: to discuss the implementation of the Peace Formula of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The third: to develop promising areas of economic cooperation,” said Kuleba.
The minister expressed gratitude to the Mozambican side for giving official consent to the opening of the Ukrainian embassy in Maputo. He emphasized that “the opening of the embassy takes place in the broader context of the renaissance of Ukrainian-African relations.”
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spoke about the situation at the front and “the efforts of the defense forces of Ukraine to repel missile and drone strikes of the Russian Federation and the liberation of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.”
“No other country in the world seeks peace more than Ukraine. Last year, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed the Peace Formula, a ten-point plan to help establish a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and strengthen global security. We invite Mozambique — especially as a country that currently holds the seat of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2023-2024 — to join in its implementation. This will be a significant contribution to the protection of the principles and goals of the UN Charter,” the minister said.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine raised the issue of ensuring food security in Africa, in particular the functioning of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
Kuleba also announced that Ukraine is ready to include Mozambique in the list of countries that receive Ukrainian grains within humanitarian initiative of President Zelenskyi “Grain From Ukraine” to support Mozambique’s food security. At the same time, he emphasized the inadmissibility of “Russia’s use of food as a weapon.”
The Mozambican side “expressed solidarity with Ukraine against the backdrop of the war unleashed by Russia and supported Kuleba’s proposal to hold a business forum under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine notes.
On May 25, Dmytro Kuleba visited Rwanda with diplomatic visit. According to the press service of the department, he held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the country Vincent Biruta.
The other day, Kuleba met with the heads of diplomatic departments of Ethiopia and Morocco during his second tour of Africa.
