On June 4, Russian troops conducted an unsuccessful reconnaissance northeast of Kharkiv. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that a Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group made an unsuccessful attempt to break through Ukrainian defenses near Zeleny (34 km northeast of Kharkiv).
The Ukrainian military reported that Russian troops are trying to regain the initiative on the Kupyansk-Svatov-Kreminna line and are reinforcing their troops along the Luhansk-Kharkiv front line.
The Commander of the Eastern Group of Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that Russian troops are trying to resume offensive operations near Masyutivka (13 km northeast of Kupyansk), Novoselivsky and Kuzemivka (16 km northwest of Svatovo), Makiivka (23 km northwest of Kreminnaya), Bilogorivka (13 km south of Kreminnaya), and Spirny (27 km south of Kreminnaya).
Syrskyi added that Russian troops are strengthening their positions with “Storm Z” assault units, which are manned by convicts. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian troops deployed a group of 500 convicts to reinforce an unidentified unit operating in the Kharkiv region, and almost 100 of them were wounded by Ukrainian troops with artillery fire.

Ukrainian and Russian forces claimed to have made limited territorial gains on the Kupyansk-Svatov line on June 4. Syrskyi said that Ukrainian forces successfully advanced 400 meters in an unspecified area in the Swativ direction and liberated a large area of the Ivanovo forest.
Russian sources claimed that Russian troops had crossed the Oskil River and captured Novomlynsk (21 km northeast of Kupyansk), but noted the lack of photo or video evidence of this alleged advance.
The General Staff of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian troops repelled Russian attacks on Novoselivske, and the Russian Ministry of Defense claims that Russian troops repelled Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups near Berestovo (20 km northwest of Svatovo), Andriivka (14 km west of Svatovo), and Novoselivskyi.
On June 4, Russian troops continued their offensive south of Kreminnaya. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian troops had unsuccessfully attacked Bilogorivka and Spirne. A Russian news aggregator claimed that Russian and Ukrainian forces engaged in battle on the R-66 highway near Kreminnaya.
Before General Staff reported that during the past day, the enemy launched 14 missile and 40 air strikes, carried out 51 attacks from rocket salvo systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas.
