Germany’s decision to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine is “absolutely logical”, said the country’s Economy Minister and Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck.
“Ukraine has been defending itself for almost a year against the attack by Russia, which is contrary to international law. He defends his territorial integrity and freedom with a tenacity that impresses me anew every day,” Habeck said in a statement.
“And I am convinced that it is our responsibility to support them in this area, together with our European and international partners, in particular the United States.”
Habeck said it was important to “weigh things in” before adjusting the level of support for Ukraine.
“So the decisions we have now made absolutely make sense,” he said.
“In close cooperation with our partners, we provide combat tanks to Ukraine so that it can better defend itself against Russian aggression, and we make this possible for our partners as well,” Habeck added.
“Ukraine’s right to self-defense applies, and we support it in this with great force.”
