On November 24, Lviv will bid farewell to hero Yury Chernenko, who died defending Ukraine. The Town Hall calls on residents and guests of Lviv to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this period.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, 11:30 a.m. – Farewell to the City Ceremony in Rynok Square. The soldier will be buried in the Lychakiv cemetery.

Yuriy Chernenko (November 9, 1968 – November 11, 2022). Originally from Lviv.
He studied at Lyceum No. 51 named after Ivan Franko of Lviv City Council. Received professional and technical training in the specialty “3rd category mechanical fitter-fitter”. From 1968 to 1988 he served in the army.
Since 1995 he served in the modern National Guard of Ukraine. Since 2016, he has been in the 184th training center of the National Academy of Ground Forces named after Hetman Petr Sagaidachny, later – in the 355th mechanized training regiment. Performed combat tasks in the field of counter-terrorism operation / joint forces operation.
Chief sergeant. With the beginning of the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, he fought with the occupiers in the ranks of the 37th separate motorized infantry battalion “Zaporizhia” of the 56th infantry brigade separate motorized Mariupol of the Operational Command “South” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Yuriy Chernenko is survived by a daughter and a grandson.
