On September 30, Russian troops attacked a humanitarian convoy on its way out of Zaporizhzhia with modernized S-300 missiles, which have a much longer range.
According to the minister, modernized S-300 missiles were used for the first time in the terrorist attack, which explode as soon as they touch the surface. The previous version of these rockets exploded, plunging several meters into the ground, creating deep craters, but at the same time less affected the people around.
“Our pyrotechnicians on the spot said that the explosion of the rocket occurred when it touched the ground. This was done in order to kill as many people as possible. And now we saw how it is deadly and how many people can die,” Monastyrskyi said.
The minister emphasized that there were no military facilities or equipment nearby. Cars in which people go to the occupied territories to visit relatives form a humanitarian convoy every morning. Mostly women, children and older people drive in old cars in that direction, and return back in the evening.
“Just at that time, the police had a change, that’s why there was such a large number of victims. The policemen hid children and people, because the rockets came in several series. Considering the density of traffic at the place where the humanitarian convoy gathered, there could have been much more victims. Wounded policemen I was told that if the rocket strike had been 5 minutes later, there would have been twice as many cars at that place,” the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized.
