On Tuesday, February 22, US President Joe Biden signed a decree imposing sanctions on the so-called “DPR” and “LPR” due to Russia’s recognition of their “independence.”
The relevant document is published on the White House website.
“President Putin’s actions run counter to Russia’s commitments under the Minsk agreements, refute Russia’s commitment to diplomacy and undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement said.
The document prohibits US citizens from investing in the DPR and LPR, importing into the United States any goods, services and technologies from these regions, and exporting goods from the United States to ORDLO.
These sanctions differ from the list of “quick and tough economic measures” that the United States is ready to take with allies and partners in response to Russia’s further invasion of Ukraine. The White House called on Russia to immediately de-escalate the situation.
It will be recalled that on February 21, following an extended meeting of the Security Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing Russia’s “independence” of the self-proclaimed “DPR” and “LPR.” The document provides for cooperation and assistance between Russia and “LDNR”.
