The other day, the Ivano-Frankivsk district police department received a statement from a 53-year-old resident of the district. The man said he had been the victim of online scammers.
As law enforcement officers discovered, the applicant attempted to buy a car. Found an ad for the sale of a vehicle and contacted a potential seller. A stranger entered the man’s trust. So, the victim himself transferred 120,000 hryvnias to the card of an unknown person. Since then, the scammers have not returned their phone calls and no one has driven the car.
The police are investigating this fact.
Police are advising residents of the area:
- do not transfer money as a deposit or advance payment for goods, even for small amounts;
- carefully study all the information about the seller or the online store;
- check the telephone numbers specified in the advertisements via Internet search engines, it is possible that someone has already been the victim of a fraudster and warn others about it;
- if possible, meet the seller in person and only pay for the product after you have received it.
