The price of electricity produced by wind power plants (WES) in Ukraine has become lower than the price of “normal” electricity.
“For more than a week, UVEA has been recording that wind energy for the country is cheaper than the price of electricity on the market. The cost of electricity at the RDN currently stands at 90.5 euros per MWh, and electricity from wind turbines under the “green” tariff costs 88 euros per MWh,” the association reported.
At the same time, the market price for electricity in Ukraine will only increase in the coming months, while the price of electricity from wind will remain fixed at the same level until 2030. “In the conditions when fossil fuels are becoming more expensive due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, the only source of safe, clean and price-stable electricity in Ukraine remains the “green” energy,” the message emphasizes.
UVEA believes that in the current situation, the state should use all opportunities to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security.
“As we have previously reported, this can be done as soon as possible thanks to the support of investors in the completion of previously started wind energy projects,” UVEA added.
According to the association, the extension of the contracts for the purchase of electric energy at the “green” tariff until 2024 for wind farms that are currently under construction, which is proposed by the Ministry of Energy in its draft law, will allow tens of megawatts of wind generation capacity to be added to the power system already this winter.
As reported, on September 2, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine can become a “green energy hub” for Europe and increase exports, in particular of “green” electricity to the EU, to replace “dirty” Russian energy resources. The Secretariat of the Energy Community wants to help investors in resuming the construction of green power plants in Ukraine, which will increase the country’s energy security and give a signal to other investors to attract new funds to the development of Ukraine’s green energy industry.
