NAZK started an investigation against Hryhoriy Surkis on suspicion of a conflict of interest.
The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption has launched an investigation into Hryhoriy Surkis, a People’s Deputy from the former pro-Russian party OPZZH, on suspicion of a conflict of interest. This is stated in the request of the NACP to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, writes zn.uaconveys Censor. NO.
“The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (…) collects evidence regarding the presence/absence of signs of administrative offenses related to corruption in the actions of People’s Deputy of Ukraine 9 convocation Hryhoriy Mykhailovych Surkis, provided for in Article 172-7 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (prevention of conflict of interests, – ed.)”, says the NAZK’s request to the Verkhovna Rada.
NAZK suspects that Hryhoriy Surkis could have lobbied and personally voted for the draft law on changes to the Law “On Physical Culture and Sports” contrary to the conflict of interests.
As part of the investigation, the NACP requested from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine: agenda, protocol, transcript of the Sports Committee of the VRU, which considered the draft law on the eve of bringing it to the session hall, audio and video recording of the relevant meeting of the Committee, information about the authors of the draft law, etc.
It is about a document that was allegedly initiated by the presidents of several football clubs, which the day before were engaged in boycotting the single TV pool of the Ukrainian Premier League. However, the Ukrainian mass media immediately called it is the Surkis who are the initiators and lobbyists of this draft law, because its adoption, in addition to the possibility of further blocking of the telepool, also provides commercial benefits for the businesses of the youngest of the Surkis – Igor.
Since the latter is the owner of FC “Dynamo” and at the same time a co-owner of a share of the media group 1+1, Surkis gets ways of additional earnings by ignoring the TV pool of the UPL and transferring the TV rights to the “pluses”.
“…Gryhoriy Surkis was able to lobby for a document that allows his family and his brother Ihor Surkis to make money twice from telecasting football matches: first as the owner of FC “Dynamo”, and then also as the owner of the 1+1 media group,” she wrote about this Gazeta.uaemphasizing that Hryhoriy Surkis is the secretary of the sports committee of the VRU, which considered the ZU project at an unprecedented, ultra-fast pace.
It will be recalled that the lobbied draft law determined that the organizer of the football match is the “football club of the host team”. Along with how explained member of the UEC Commission Andriy Hryvko, such a new norm of Ukrainian legislation contradicts international sports rules and undermines the development prospects of all our football clubs.
In the meantime, it has already appeared on the website of appeals to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi petition about the need to veto “Surkis’s amendments” to Ukrainian sports legislation.
