Heads of foreign affairs of member countries NATO following the results of the meeting in Bucharest, they issued a statement in which they assured that the Alliance would strengthen its support for Ukraine.

As emphasized by the ministers in statementthey will “further strengthen the political and practical support of Ukraine” while the country defends “its sovereignty and territorial integrity and common [з Альянсом] values ​​from Russian aggression.” They assured that the support will continue as long as it is necessary.

“NATO will continue to coordinate closely with relevant stakeholders, including international organizations, in particular the EU, as well as like-minded countries. Building on the support provided earlier, we will help Ukraine strengthen its resilience, protect its people and counter Russian disinformation campaigns and lies,” the statement reads.

The ministers emphasized that Russia “bears full responsibility for this war, a gross violation of international law and the principles of the UN Charter.”

“Russia’s aggression, including its persistent and unscrupulous attacks on Ukrainian civil and energy infrastructure, is depriving millions of Ukrainians of basic social services. This has affected global food supplies and endangered the world’s most vulnerable countries and peoples. Russia’s unacceptable actions, including hybrid actions, energy blackmail and reckless nuclear rhetoric undermine the rules-based international order,” the ministers noted.

The heads of foreign affairs also emphasized that they stand in solidarity with Poland after the incident on November 15, which led to the tragic loss of life as a result of Russian missile strikes on Ukraine. They also condemn the actions of Belarus, which actively promotes Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine.

“All persons responsible for war crimes, including sexual violence in conflict, must be held accountable,” the statement said.

The ministers also expressed full solidarity with the government and people of Ukraine and paid tribute to all those who died heroically defending their country and land.

They reiterated that they are still firmly committed to the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and will never recognize Russian attempts to annex Ukrainian territories, committed in gross violations of the UN Charter.

The ministers also assured that they are “determined” to support Ukraine’s post-war recovery and reforms, including those related to the modernization of the defense sector.

“We will continue to strengthen our partnership with Ukraine as it advances its Euro-Atlantic aspirations,” the ministers said.

Ukraine and NATO – the latest news

On September 30, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed the application for Ukraine’s accession to NATO in an accelerated manner. In the Alliance then declaredthat the door is open for Ukraine to join NATO.

On November 29, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg emphasized that Finland and Sweden will become NATO members in the near future and added that in the Alliance “follow the same opinion regarding Ukraine’s membership”.

Earlier, NATO also stated that will help Ukraine to defend against Russia “as much as necessary”.

At the same time, Hungary, which has been hindering Ukraine’s prospects for NATO membership since 2017 by blocking the work of the specialized committee, announced on November 29 that will block the participation of Ukraine in the meetings of the Alliance.
