The idea of holding an illegal “referendum” on the alleged accession of the occupied regions of Ukraine to the Russian Federation did not find support among the population of the city of Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia region, so the Russian occupiers are transporting a mass of people from the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea to film propaganda stories.
“They (the Russian occupiers. – Ed.) did not give up the idea of holding a “referendum”, although they see the total resistance of our civilian population in the temporarily occupied territory. Therefore, yesterday evening, they brought a mass-produced vehicle from Crimea on multi-story buses, with the help of which they want to shoot these propaganda stories about alleged support from the local population in Melitopol… A few days ago, they filmed a survey of residents on the streets of the city, but for some reason those who answered about support for Russia spoke with an accent, and these are definitely not residents of our city,” said Fedorov.
He also noted that the representatives of the occupation authorities began to visit the apartments of Melitopol citizens, but “no one opens them and does not respond to their calls, so there is definitely no support.”
He does not rule out that this may later lead to the use of additional torture, intimidation and coercion of the townspeople.
“Their methods have not changed compared to the first day: they take captive people with at least some pro-Ukrainian position… Secondly, of course, during the voting (representatives of the occupiers. – Ed.) they go with military personnel in masks and with weapons. There are the threat that those who did not agree to cooperate and say: “Yes, I support the “referendum” will be immediately taken away and tortured,” the mayor added.
According to him, this primarily concerns men of conscription age who are subject to mobilization, therefore Fedorov called on them “to go to Crimea as much as possible, then to the European Union or Georgia, and then, of course, to return to Ukraine, because absolutely everyone will be taken from streets and will mobilize, as was the case in the occupied Donbas”.
