Andriy Piontkovskyi noted that the USA made Russia clearly understand what consequences should be expected.
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will not use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. If such weapons are used, there will be a response from the US.
Russian political scientist and publicist Andriy Piontkovskyi told about it on the “Feygin Live” broadcast.
According to him, the threat of using nuclear weapons by the Kremlin is minimal. There are three main reasons for this:
- it makes no sense from a military point of view. It does not solve any military task. He will destroy one Ukrainian city, thousands of people will die, but Ukraine will not stop resisting, and the West will not stop supporting it;
- he knows what punishment will follow this blow;
- ordering a nuclear strike requires the interaction of many actors.
“Putin planned to pass through Ukraine in a matter of days, and the war was supposed to break out in the Baltics. At the moment when NATO troops began to gain ground, Putin would get his nuclear weapons, which should force the Alliance to capitulate and retreat. But no one was ready for the use of tactical weapons in Ukraine, because no one considered the scenario when the Russians lose the war to Ukraine and use tactical nuclear weapons in desperation,” Piontkovsky noted.
At the same time, he indicated that in the event of a retaliatory nuclear attack, the USA will destroy Russian installations, the entire Black Sea Fleet and its bases.
“Putin began to say that the West tried to push Russia to use nuclear weapons in order to cover the country with shame, so Moscow will not use them. Thus, the topic of nuclear weapons is closed,” the political scientist concluded.
Putin’s nuclear threats – what is known
On September 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin resorted to nuclear blackmail. He stated that “nuclear blackmail is being conducted against Russia.” He threatened that in the event of threats to territorial integrity, Russia “uses all available means, this is not a bluff.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that these are only the first steps of Putin’s nuclear blackmail and doesn’t think it’s a bluff either.

At the same time, Kyrylo is the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense Budanov denied the possibility of a Russian nuclear attack on the territory of Ukraine in the near future.
