The president’s office proposes to ban the purchase of cigarettes and alcohol for money. According to officials, the share of illegal circulation of tobacco products reaches 30%, alcoholic beverages – even more. The introduction of electronic excise tax will make life difficult for manufacturers and sellers of illegal products.
Instead of outdated excise stamps, they plan to introduce QR codes, after scanning each buyer will be able to find out where the products were made. In addition, the consumer will be able to know if taxes have been paid for this product.
This was reported by the deputy head of the OP Rostislav Shurma.
“The same excise duty, ultimately, is paid by the consumer. If there is a conditional price of a pack of cigarettes at 70 UAH, we understand that almost 50 of them are excise taxes. If these 50 hryvnias are taken from the consumer, but they do not go to the budget, but go into the pockets of counterfeit producers, then, I think, any citizen will have an extremely important question»– noted Shurma.
In addition, the deputy head of the PO added that at the same time there are plans to increase the rates of excise duty on tobacco products, alcohol and fuel to average European levels.
“One of the offsets we are considering is an increase in the taxation of harmful consumption. What is harmful consumption? These are tobacco, alcohol and fossil fuels. As part of this reform, we will bring excise duty rates back to average European levels»– said Shurma.
