From February 15, 2023, in accordance with the new rules, a ban on fishing for pike during the spawning period is established in all fishing water bodies, which will be in effect until March 31.
About that reported the press service of the National Agency for Land Reclamation and Fisheries.
“This ban is introduced for the first time in Ukraine and will finally correspond to the logic of the development process of this type of fish. After all, pike is one of the few fish in our reservoirs whose spawning activity begins to a water temperature of 3 to 5°C, which is lower than the spawning temperatures of other species.
In order to protect spawners during the pre-spawning and spawning periods, the duration of the spawning ban on the capture of pike should extend not only to the spawning period, but also to the time of fishing activity. pre-spawn.
After all, the immediate spawning of pike is preceded by pre-spawning migration, during which the final maturation of eggs in females and milk in males takes place. And its breeders need special protection during mass spawning migrations, during which pike are very vulnerable to capture,” the agency explained.
The National Fisheries Agency has drawn attention to the fact that illegal pike fishing is subject to administrative to criminal liability, as well as compensation for fishing losses.
The fine for an illegally caught pike is 3,468 hryvnias.
