Taiwan claims that the Chinese military is conducting exercises to simulate an attack on the island

Chinese warships and aircraft conducted a rehearsal for an attack on Taiwan on Saturday, the autonomous Ministry of Defense said.

It is said that 14 planes out of twenty that took off crossed the median line – the unofficial buffer that separates the sides. Also, 14 Chinese warships conducted maneuvers in the area of ​​the Taiwan Strait.

China began military exercises on Thursday at six locations around the island. On Saturday, the Chinese authorities announced the continuation of military exercises around Taiwan until August 15. Initially, they were announced by August 7.

Vessels are prohibited from entering the southern part of the Yellow Sea during the training period. The main attention is paid to testing the capabilities of shock systems and attack from the sea.

The United States called these actions an escalation.

Taiwan’s military responded by deploying aerial reconnaissance patrols and surveillance ships, and put shore-based missiles on standby.

As the agency previously reported, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a short visit to Taiwan earlier this week, angering Beijing, which it believes Taiwan its territory. Pelosi said her visit demonstrates America’s unwavering commitment to supporting Taiwan’s democracy, noting that “the world faces a choice between autocracy and democracy.”

In response, China decided to conduct unprecedented military exercises around the island using ballistic missiles that flew over the autonomous capital – Taipei.
