The decision has yet to be adopted by the Council of the European Union.
European Parliament approved a new aid mechanism for Ukraine for 2023 for a record total amount of 18 billion euros, within which the state will receive 1.5 billion euros from the EU every month.
This was stated by the head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola reported on the Internet on November 24.
Note that this decision has yet to be approved by the EU Council.
“After nine months of war waged by the Kremlin, our support for Ukraine is only getting stronger. We will not leave our positions,” Metsola said in a statement.
Earlier, the European Commission proposed a support format for Ukraine, which provides for the payment of 18 billion euros in 2023. The assistance will consist of long-term loans with a significant discount. The repayment term of these loans is up to 35 years, starting from 2033. It should be noted that interest on loans will be covered by EU member states instead of Ukraine.
To provide assistance to Ukraine there is a condition – reformsnecessary for getting closer to membership in the European Union.
Money from the EU can be directed to:
- urgent budgetary expenses (not military), including the payment of pensions;
- restoration of critical infrastructure;
- initial support for post-war reconstruction.
