The Pope compared the religious communities of Ukraine to “caring children who united when their mother fell ill.”
“Thank you for this unity of yours, it means a lot to me. It is like children in a family, where one is there, the other is somewhere else, but when mom is sick, everyone gathers together. This is an example in the face of the enormous superficiality that today we see in our culture,” the pontiff said.
Francis said that he admires Ukrainians and prays for Ukraine every day.
“I am grateful to God, because this meeting with you allows me in a certain way to have close contact with the Ukrainian people, who are always present in my prayers during these months. After all, you represent the Churches and Religious Organizations of Ukraine, including the Bible Society, which is interfaith. And you participate in the life of the country, trying to respond to social challenges with public speeches and a variety of activities that have recently been strongly linked to the dramatic current situation,” the Pope said.
