The US will send Ukraine 31 Abrams tanks with ammunition, as well as tactical vehicles and support vehicles.
The US Department of Defense on Wednesday, January 25, made public a complete list of the new package of military aid to Ukraine worth 400 million dollars. In particular, the new package included 31 Abrams tanks.
- 31 Abrams tanks with 120-mm shells and other ammunition;
- Eight tactical equipment recovery vehicles;
- Auxiliary vehicles and equipment;
- Funding for training, maintenance and support.
It is noted that the purchase of 31 Abrams tanks will take place with the help of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) to support the defense of Ukraine against Russian aggression.
“This package of USAI measures underscores the continued commitment of the United States to the development of the potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine now and in the future… This USAI package worth $400 million marks the beginning of the contracting process to provide additional capabilities to Ukraine,” the statement said.
The Pentagon added that in addition to the Abrams tank battalion provided by the United States, the European consortium is committed to providing Ukraine with two Leopard tank battalions in the near future.
In total, since the beginning of the Biden administration, the United States has allocated more than 27.8 billion dollars for security assistance to Ukraine. The United States has provided more than $29.9 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since 2014 and more than $27.1 billion since the start of a full-scale Russian invasion on February 24, 2022.
