The Security Service of Ukraine detained two inspectors and one former employee of the State Security Service on transport while receiving a bribe from a carrier. About this informs Department of the SBU in the Volyn region.
A group of officials established a criminal mechanism for obtaining money from truck carriers. The attackers offered their assistance in passing vehicles out of the queue through the Yagodin international checkpoint. Officials valued their “services” at USD 100 per car.
SBU employees documented several such facts of receiving illegal funds. It was also established that the perpetrators demanded bribes from volunteer organizations and charitable foundations.
The SBU detained three people while receiving another batch of bribes.
As part of the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an illegal benefit by an official), three persons involved were notified of suspicion. Currently, the issue of a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved.
Officials face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
