The Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment against two residents of Tyachiv Region for extortion, combined with threats of violence against the victim and his close relatives, damage and destruction of their property (Part 2 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that the accused demanded $ 120,000 from the Transcarpathian on the pretext of reimbursing him. If they refused to pay this amount, they threatened violence against him and his family, as well as destruction of property.
In the autumn of last year, the men visited the victim’s apartment in one of the villages of Tyachiv region, demanding to pay part of the money – 10 thousand US dollars. Immediately after receiving this amount, they were detained by police.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zakarpattia region with the operational support of the Department of Strategic Investigations in the Zakarpattia region of the DSR of the National Police.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proved in law and established by a court conviction.
