The Odesa authorities did not include the French Boulevard in the zone that will be included in the UNESCO world heritage. However, Odesa Port was included in the nomination application, for example.
As informs Censor.NO, People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko informed about this.
According to him, French Boulevard falls only into the buffer zone. “For some reason, the port with cranes and elevators goes there, but French Boulevard does not – which has great historical significance. The Odesa authorities applied for the inclusion of the city center in the world heritage sites, but chose a very strange area between Primorskaya, Torgovaya, Sadova Streets, Cathedral Square, Preobrazhenska, Zhukovsky, Polish and Quarantine Uzvoz, Nakhimova Lane and Suvorovskaya Alley of Shevchenko Park,” said the People’s Deputy in his Telegram channels.
In April, Goncharenko met with UNESCO’s director of external relations, Genkom Seiti, where he emphasized that it is necessary to include the center of Odessa in the list of cultural heritage sites, especially at a time when Russia is threatening historically important places.
