Blinken leaves for Bali on Wednesday to attend a meeting of G20 foreign ministers before traveling to Thailand.
He will meet with a representative of China on Saturday, the first face-to-face meeting between the two since October, amid heightened geopolitical tensions between the US and China, which declared “boundless” friendship with Russia just before invading Ukraine in late February.
“We have had a number of high-level discussions with our Chinese counterparts about what we expect not only from the People’s Republic of China, but also from all responsible members of the international community regarding Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine,” the US assistant secretary said.
“I think this will be another opportunity to openly talk about this and express our expectations from China regarding Ukraine,” he added.
