The IAEA and the UN should strictly demand that the Russians leave the territory of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and hand it over to the control of a special commission.
Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, announced this on Twitter.
“This Saturday morning in many European cities became possible because the Zaporizhia NPP miraculously did not blow up yesterday. Russia seized the plant and is staging dangerous provocations. The IAEA and the UN should strictly demand that Russia withdraw from the NPP and hand it over to the control of a special commission.” – he wrote.
As UNIAN reported, on August 5, Russian invaders four times fired at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. They aimed at the high-voltage communication line of the 330 kV VRP autotransformer of the Zaporizhzhya TPP. As a result, it was damaged, emergency protection was triggered on one of the power units, diesel generators were switched on. This unit is currently unloaded and disconnected from the power grid.
After the shelling by the occupiers of the Zaporizhia NPP, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on countries to apply tough sanctions against the entire of the Russian nuclear industry. According to him, Russia should bear responsibility for the very fact of creating a nuclear power plant threat.
