Starokostyantyniv District Court fined a man who appropriate the money collected for the purchase of thermal imagers. As the investigation established, it is more than 12,000 UAH of charitable contributions. Yaroslav Bondar entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor, so he received a light sentence – a fine of 68,000 UAH.
The prosecutor’s office said the man was suspected in August last year. As the investigation found, in March a 23-year-old resident of Starokostyantynov posted an announcement on Facebook and Instagram about raising funds for thermal imaging cameras for the army. In total, he managed to collect more than 12,000 UAH. However, as the investigation established, the suspect spent this money on his own needs.
In addition, Yaroslav Bondar was also accused of attempted fraud: in April last year, he asked an acquaintance for 200,000 hryvnias supposedly for the treatment of an injured person. To do this, he even sent her fake photos of the injured leg. However, the interlocutor suspected deception and did not give the money.
The actions of the pseudo-volunteer were qualified under Part 1 of Art. Part 2 of Art. KKU190 (fraud). As stated in sentence of the Starokostyantyniv District Court on February 1, the accused entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor. At the same time, a number of mitigating circumstances were taken into account: the man repented of what he had done and fully admitted his guilt. It is also known about him that he has three dependent minor children and that he also serves in the armed forces.
Judge Larisa Bondarchuk approved the deal. Therefore, the man was fined 68,000 UAH. In addition, he has to pay more than 5000 UAH for exams.
The verdict has not yet entered into force, the parties have time to appeal. However, since the suspect and the prosecutor have reached an agreement, it is likely that the verdict will not be appealed.
