President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, on the eve of the visit of the Ukrainian singer and winner of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest Jamala to the USA to participate in cultural events and meet with American officials, said that signals from famous cultural figures have an influence in the world.
As informs Censor. NOabout this the press service of the president reports.
Zelensky held a corresponding meeting with Jamala in Kyiv.
“Your voice can be heard everywhere. And this is a great opportunity to once again remind everyone that there is a war going on in Ukraine,” the president told the singer.
He focused on the fact that today the most urgent problem is Russian attacks on energy infrastructure facilities and the threat of a blackout, and the whole world should be aware of this problem. In this regard, there are corresponding needs to ensure normal living conditions for the civilian population.
According to him, the issue of protecting the Ukrainian sky from missiles and drones is directly related to this very challenge. For this, it is necessary to strengthen the air defense of Ukraine. “It is important for us to get through this winter. We are able to win and we are winning. The USA is a leader in supporting Ukraine, and without their help, which we will continue to need, it would be very difficult for us,” Zelenskyy said. also emphasizing the importance of the issue of political prisoners, among whom are many residents of Jamala’s native Crimea, in particular Crimean Tatars.
“We have repeatedly transferred the lists to the United States, Turkey, etc. It is very important when the leaders and high-ranking officials of such countries transfer information and speed up this process. We are engaged in exchanges, but so far, unfortunately, the biggest difficulty is with political prisoners. We need them return,” he added.
Jamala, in turn, told the head of state about the planned events and expressed her belief that the cultural front is very important in Ukraine’s current struggle for its freedom and independence.
She noted that every artist has his own story, and her own begins in the Ukrainian Crimea.
“And that is why, no matter where I am, the first priority for me is to remind that foreigners came to my house to kill and maim life, to destroy and rewrite my culture. It was so in 1944, and then in 2014 , and again. Now everyone in Ukraine understands that this can happen to anyone, if evil is not stopped and made to answer for crimes,” the singer stressed.
